As we write this letter, we realize that the words “thank you” simply don’t suffice. The impact of the support from Read for life is evident as our program strives to provide a quality early intervention program to families throughout Tulare County. Please let us share with you the difference you have made for the families we serve.

Because of you, toddlers are learning to enjoy and handle books in homes where no books were to be found.  Bright Start encourages families to use books instead of screens to teach, bond, and spend quality time with their child. Your support has allowed us to gift books to hundreds of children.

Because of Read for Life, our teachers provide books and then guide parents in sharing literacy opportunities with their babies. Meet our little Matthew, a 22 month old, adorable, busy boy.  His parents had stopped allowing him access to books as he handles most things rather roughly, and they feared he would damage them.  Our teacher provided the family with a book from the “Indestructibles” collection, purchased with Read for Life funding.  Mom and dad practiced gentle hands and appropriate book handling behavior. Providing this family with just one book has helped them to relax and bring joy back to reading time.

Bright Start will now have lending libraries at all three of our locations, Visalia, Dinuba, and Porterville.  This would have never been possible without the support from Read for Life. 

We are thrilled and so grateful to know that the budget allocated for Bright Start has been increased. We believe this will allow us to include a book in every new parent binder when our teachers make their first home visit.  This would ensure that every single child who comes through our program receives a book. As early educators, we value literacy and promote exposure to books from birth.

In the future when we can safely gather for family workshops, we would love for you to join us to see us in action and meet our babies.  Blessings to you in all you do.  Read for Life truly benefits the lives of our Bright Start children and children throughout Tulare County.
